Joyce Pinch
As well as becoming an established painter focusing in the main on natural forms I have also taught art & design at secondary school and university.
My inspiration comes from my love of the garden and the rural surrounding area which is a major influence in my work.
I experiment with found objects to explore colour, scale and arrangement to illustrate the fragility that is intrinsic within them.
Colours found in nature can be extraordinarily delicate and subtle but sometimes riotous and flamboyant which gives me endless pleasure exploring the contrasts and juxtaposition of one against the other.
Sometimes my compositions are complex or of individual forms but can also involve contrived repetitions of close studies of seed heads, flowers, fruits etc.. By formally grouping the objects together it allows me to embrace the differences and similarities of the individual forms, creating personalities and discreet identities.
Much of my work is painted in acrylic on canvas or board, using predominantly square format but larger than life size, where textures and markings are a predominant feature.
