Claire Failes
Acrylic
Kingshill House
Claire is almost an exclusively a landscape painter. She’s lived in Gloucestershire for over 37 years and her locality informs her work.
She paints in a traditional way so the onlooker can recognise the view. She considers each composition and to get the best out of every landscape painting she paints. Sometimes using a bit of artistic licence to do so.
She’s surrounded by her subject matter and rarely goes far for her next composition.
On occasions she’s painted the same view several times. The time of year and the weather can alter the light and colours bringing a new fascination to the landscape and composition.
She starts by drawing on the spot. It makes you really look and see what is in front of you. She also photographs for secondary reference as well as making notes as to the weather, colours and atmosphere.
Acrylic paint is her favourite medium. She uses it in thin layers building up the composition as she goes. By doing so It allows her to increase the detail as she completes the painting.
Her main aim is to make the onlooker immerse themselves in the painting and feel they’re present in the view.
